Long Island Wine Country’s 50th Anniversary Grand Celebration

Long Island Wine Country invites you to the 50th Anniversary Grand Celebration at 5pm on August 19th at Peconic Bay Vineyards. This event celebrates the founding of the Long Island wine region when Louisa and Alex Hargrave planted the first wine grapes in 1973. In attendance will be Louisa herself along with other pioneers of our industry including many of the winemakers who have dedicated their entire careers creating the wines that you have come to love. All that is needed to complete the celebration is you, without whom our region would have never reached this milestone.

We are planning on having top regional culinary talents create tasty bites from locally sourced farm products to pair with wines that celebrate the diversity of wines styles produced on both the North and South Forks in this, our 50th year. Whether it is traditional methode champenoise sparkling wine or pet-nat, white wines that display what we are calling "maritime minerality" or a rare red library wine selection from our best vintages, there will be dishes created specifically for each wine style to showcase the best Long Island has to offer.

About Captain Liz & Layla Sailing, laylasailing.com

Captain Liz: Liz grew up on the waters surrounding Orient. The youngest of 4 kids, she learned early that boats were her key to freedom. Liz started sailing at the Orient Yacht Club when she was 8. She turned her love for sailing into a career when she became a US Coast Guard Licensed Captain in 2014. From working on charter vessels in the Virgin Islands and Hawaii, to sailing across the Atlantic Ocean, she’s found a home at sea.

In 2018 she took a leap in purchasing her own boat. Liz has learned secrets from working all over the world, and applied best practices to ensure your day on the water is unmatched! With hundreds of happy sails under her belt as captain/owner, she continues to innovate, never settling for “good enough.”

About The Boat: Layla is a Fastnet 45, built to the highest standards for ocean cruising at the respected Dutch yard of Adolf LeComte. These yachts were designed by Bill Luders (here on Long Island), who created a powerful, sea-kindly vessel with beautiful classic lines. Layla is hull #189 out of the LeComte yard, but one of only nineteen Fastnet 45s ever made! She’s a classic head turner in any harbor. Relax in the cushioned open cockpit while our crew serves you and your guests. This area is meant for lounging, with some shade available under the bimini, (not rigged in photos). Layla’s flush deck provides ample space to lounge on deck.

Saltbird Cellars x Paw Paw Pop up at The Lin Beach House

PAWPAW is a pop-up restaurant dedicated to showcasing the ingredients farmed, fished, and foraged on the North Fork of Long Island. On select Saturday evenings, PAWPAW convenes at The Lin Beach House in Greenport to create a five course tasting menu celebrating the bounty that makes the North Fork such a magical place.

PAWPAW x Saltbird Cellars

SATURDAY MAY 20TH - PAWPAW welcomes winemaker Robin Epperson-McCarthy of Saltbird Cellars! Price of ticket includes full menu and drink pairings.

Robin's ethos is "Wine is ultimately a subjective experience. If you like it, drink it, and…
do it with zeal!" She is committed (in the lunatic sense) to making very calculated wines in the rebel way. The Saltbird label represents the culmination of years of trans equatorial wine wanderings.

She applies learned methods from this and other cool climate regions to make
unique wines that honor the distinctive maritime terrior in which they are grown–
here in this place, at this time.

An unforgettable evening of delicious local food and wine. Don't miss it!

Black Cat Supper Club

Saturday, June 27th - Curbside Pick Up
6:30-7pm

4 course tasting menu with bottle of wine
$90/person + tax

The 2018 Merlot was the inspiration for this fun and delicious 4 course tasting menu but we believe in giving you a few wine choices to pair with your dinner:

2017 Sauvignon Blanc - Stainless Steel Fermentation
2018 Chardonnay - Stainless Steel Fermentation
2018 Rosetta Rosé - Dry Rosé Cabernet Franc & Cabernet Sauvignon
2016 Red Skies - Red Blend of Syrah & Petit Verdot
2018 Merlot - New Release!
You can also add on more bottles for $20+tax/bottle.

First Course
Sliced duck breast, hoisin, cucumber and scallion on a mini tortilla.
We highly suggest pairing with 2018 Merlot because LI Merlot and LI Duck just belong together...but an alternate pairing would be the 2016 Red Skies

The Second Course
Marinated udon noodle dish with spinach, shiitake mushrooms, ginger and scallions.
Alternate Pairing: the 2017 Sauvignon Blanc

Main Course
Miso marinated sea bass with baby bok choy and cauliflower puree.
Alternate Pairing: the  2018 Chardonnay

Dessert
Ginger shortcakes, strawberry/rhubarb, whipped creme fraiche.
Alternate Pairing: the 2018 Rosetta Rosé

Black Cat Supper Club

Are you ready for another
Black Cat Supper Club
with Saltbird Cellars?

Saturday June 13th is the night!

Are you looking to have a fun night tasting new food and delicious wine? Tired of cooking? Need a new inspiration for "date night"? Need a reason to celebrate? If you recognize yourself in any of these descriptions, then come join us for the newest edition of our Supper Club with our partner in crime, Robin Epperson McCarthy!

Yes, we'd love to have you all back at the shop, but we're not quite ready for that yet..I know we will get there, but in the meantime we're doing it all as a curbside pickup like we did last time. It worked really well, and we got some great feedback. Plus it was nice to see the line up of cars and all of your lovely smiling eyes peeking out at us from behind your masks as you received your meals, wine and heating instructions.  We suggest treating it as a special night, dress up a little, use your nice dishes and wine glasses, put on some good music and get ready for a treat!

We have created a fun and delicious 4 course tasting menu for you to enjoy along with Saltbird's delicious wines..

Robin has just bottled her Merlot, and Fritz and I tried a bottle the other night and it was really nice. A little blackberry, a little beach plum, a little black tea. Just enough alcohol (13.5% abc) to give it some heat without distracting from the spicy plum pudding that makes up the fruit component. It will go nicely with
your first course on the testing menu of sliced duck breast, hoisin, cucumber and scallion on a mini tortilla.
Robin is so happy with this premium Merlot that she thought it deserved to have it's own label and hopes you will fall in LOVE with this 2018 vintage again and again! The other wine that would be lovely with this course is Saltbird's Red Skies. On the palate this medium-bodied red offers lush pomegranates and tart cherries complimented by fennel, white pepper and dark floral notes.

The second course that Fritz will be preparing is a warm marinated udon noodle dish with spinach, shiitake mushrooms, ginger and scallions. It's really yummy, and would go really nicely with Saltbird's Chardonnay. This is a wine that just won't settle down. It evolves in your glass with the warm scent of lemon cookies and apple blossom with hints of jasmine. On the palate, there is the fatness of Meyer lemons and a coating of beeswax.Or try the Sauvignon Blanc which is what I think I'd choose. It's got a zesty freshness, mouth filling overtones of honeydew and clover with undertones of coconut water. On the palate, lime gives way to the full yet exotic fruit flavors.

For the main event Fritz is preparing miso marinated sea bass with baby bok choy and cauliflower puree. The Merlot would go nicely with the miso marinade, and both the Chardonnay and the Sauv Blanc would go well here too. Or you could celebrate National Rosé day and try Saltbird's Roseate Rosé!One look at the rose gold color of this wine and you know you are in store for something different. Not a wine to drink ice-cold, you'll miss the scent of apple blossom and strawberries. Concentrated rhubarb dances across your palate with a touch of pepper and the finish of grapefruit zest. Cabernet Franc and Syrah require a longer growing season and when used to make this rosé deliver a wine that is both fresh and reflective of a full season of ripening.

This Rosé also goes purrfectly with the 4th course on your tasting menu...for dessert I will be baking some ginger shortcakes and you'll all be assembling your own strawberry/rhubarb shortcakes with whipped creme fraiche. Tis the season for strawberries and rhubarb, and it's one of my favorite flavor combos. I can just taste it with a glass of the Roseate right now! Or a glass of Merlot! OK, it's late while I am writing this and I could use a nightcap!

So Fritz is cooking, I'm doing the dessert and Robin is supplying the wine...there may even be an Instagram LIVE tasting involved...
We are all excited to be doing this again and we hope you can join us!
